Tom Webber picked up a guitar at the age of 12 and his career as a performer started as a busker in Oxford when he was just 15 and from then on had known that music would be his life. He is a young man in love with great songs - he started out playing covers - rockers and love songs but is now focussed on writing his own material. There’s a hint of Sam Cooke’s silky voice and fabulous charm, but he has a style all of his own, and a dose charisma that’s won him an instant following.
Until recently, Tom has made ends meet as a barista in the Didcot Starbucks, the town where he grew up, but his passion lies beyond fixing espressos and cappuccinos. He grew up in a music-crazy family and at the age of 7 he had 3 CDs – The Best of the Beatles, The Best of the Beach Boys, and Divine Madness which he played over and over. His father was into 1950’s rock’n’roll and introduced Tom early to Chuck Berry, Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis. His grandfather loved Howlin’ Wolf and Sonny Boy Williamson, and made sure young Tom got a taste for the blues. Nowadays, he names Lennon/McCartney, Bob Dylan, Hank Williams, Nick Lowe and Richard Hawley as his favourite singer-songwriters.
After leaving school, Tom studied audio production for a couple of years – study which led to making his first EP. An old friend, a local radio DJ, was so excited by Tom’s debut EP that he played him on his radio show - there was something appealingly retro about the super-talented 21 year-old, but he was making all those old sounds sound fresh.
Following a series of local gigs he has a busy year ahead now - he’s just finished supporting Nick Lowe on tour this Spring, supporting The James Hunter Six at the London Jazz Cafe and will appear at The Henley Festival, Glastonbury, Cornbury Festival, Truck Festival, Bunkfest 2022 and a number of other festivals to be announced shortly!
“This chap can single handedly save rock’n’roll in 2022 – I believe in Tom Webber and so should you”
– Club Velocity – Reading
“You really begin to imagine he could be Oxfordshire’s next big breakout star”
– Nightshift Magazine
“Stop and Think about it is an absolute gem- this boy has genuine talent”
– Gary Crowley, BBC Radio London
"Martha’ finished the set to a standing ovation. Yes he’d won over a local crowd but after seeing and hearing him live he has that certain ‘something’ that will easily win over audiences far and wide. Tom Webber is definitely a name to watch out for as the lad oozes talent and has a lovely retro sounding vocal. He even has his own beer mats, I mean how rock ‘n’ roll is that?!"
